  • Domestic Violence: A Hidden Problem at the Family

    The word domestic means relating to home or family. Domestic violence is violence or other forms of abuse by one person against another person in a domestic setting. It can occur in many ways and forms whichaffects people of any age group, ethnicity, race, social status, and exits every corner of the world. ccen

    Domestic violence occurs in different forms, all ofwhich have consequences.

    1. Physicalviolence/abuse: This is physically aggressive behavior, torture or hurtful behavior or threats. This includes hitting, kicking, touching, pulling, punching, pinching, burning, threatening to injure, destructing of property, and not providing treatment during sickness.
    • Emotional violence/abuse: This can involve continuous degrading, intimidating, manipulating, brainwashing, insulting, underestimating, humiliating, making threats, neglecting, ignoring the needs and requirements, forcing, disempowering and isolating.
    • Sexual violence/abuse: Thiscan involve using force for sex, forcing partner into prostitution, making offensive statements, name calling in relation to sexual preferences, and not using birth control devices during sexual intercourse.
    • Economic violence/abuse: This include control of family income by limiting access to funds, keeping financial secrets or hiding accounts, preventing the partner from getting and keeping a job, calling and disturbing partner during working hours, spending money on unnecessary items like drugs or alcohol, and not providing necessary needs of the daily living.
    • Verbal violence/abuse: This can include threatening to hurt or kill, yelling, screaming, calling names (for example. stupid, whore, bitch), and refusing to talk or discuss.
    • Spiritual violence/abuse: This can involve preventingthe partner from having an opinion, manipulating thoughts, banning visits to spiritual places or programs, and forcing to read religious books/publications.
    • Social violence/abuse: This can involve insultingthe partner in a group, isolating, and not allowing the partner to take part in social gatherings events.
