  • Nepal’s National Day and Constitution Day Celebrated at Mississauga’s Celebration Square

    Mississauga, ON – September 19, 2024

    he National Day and Constitution Day of Nepal were celebrated today at Mississauga’s Celebration Square, marking the adoption of Nepal’s constitution in 2015, which established the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal. The Federation of Canada Nepal Chamber of Commerce (FCNCC) hosted the annual flag-raising ceremony, bringing together business leaders, youth, community members, and representatives from the municipal and provincial governments.

    Ward 5 Councillor Natalie Hart, FCNCC Founder President Bijay Paudel, and MPP Sheref Sabawy (parliamentary assistant to the Minister of Citizenship and Multiculturalism) addressed the crowd, celebrating the day and underscoring the growing ties between the Nepali community and Canada.

    Bijay Paudel highlighted the enduring people-to-people connection between the two nations, reflecting on the 50 years of strong bilateral relations. He also paid tribute to the legendary Gurkha soldiers of Nepal, renowned worldwide for their bravery, discipline, and loyalty, emphasizing their significant contributions to Nepal’s rich heritage.

    Representing the Ontario Ministry of Long-Term Care, Lara presented a certificate of recognition to the Chamber of Commerce on behalf of MPP Natalia Kusendova Bashta . Additionally, NRNA Canada Vice President Kiroj Shrestha and Bimal Man Shrestha from Newa Guthi shared their reflections on the occasion.

    The event’s cultural showcase was organized in partnership with Just Dance Studio, with CEO Swikriti Khadka leading an engaging display of Nepali cultural performances. Newa Guthi also performed a dhime baja to showcase their Newari culture. FCNCC thanks all the supporting organization including : NRNA-Canada, NCNC, Newa Guthi, NJAC, Nepal House, Mahila Chautari, Laligurans Sports Club, Bramsauga United, ONF, NPCC and NPRC.

    Big shout out to Peel Regional Police officer Sneh Patel and Inspector Darren Doody for their participation and support. This annual celebration continues to honor Nepal’s democratic journey while reinforcing the strong relationship between Canada and Nepal, as well as the important role the Nepali-Canadian community plays in Canada’s multicultural fabric.
